Swimming

Swimming plays a very big role in the USA. There are 2800 Swimming Clubs in The US. Annually around 1000 college sports Scholarships are awarded with a total value of 65 million dollars. The college teams have ideal conditions with top professional coaches and excellent medical care, at least one team doctor and one or more physiotherapist who work with modern techniques and up to date knowledge. The special factor is achieved by the teams due to cooperation with local swimming clubs; it gives the them fresh input that benefits the whole team.

Timing
The best time to go to the USA on a sports scholarship is straight after you finish school. College coaches prefer to give scholarships to younger students, as it enables them to continually train and improve a player’s performance over a period of four years. It is also possible to go to the US for just one year. Due to the contact we have to a large number of college coaches we have been able to help athletes after they have completed their Bachelor to do their Master in the USA. The best timing is if you contact us about one year before you plan to start studying in the USA. Swimmers can start studying either at the Spring Semester (January) or the Fall Semester (August).

Requirements for a Swimming Scholarship
It is difficult to say who will qualify for a scholarship and who won’t. However due to our very good contact to a great many American coaches it is possible to get offers of a scholarship for swimmers who have taken part in National Championships. If you would like to receive individual information regarding a scholarship, please fill out our Opportunities Assessment From and we will let you know as soon as possible what your chances are of getting a scholarship. The best time for taking up a swimming scholarship is ideally the Fall Semester, this way you can take part in the American pre-season preparations.

Competing
There are few countries in which swimming is as important as in the USA.

One mustn’t forget the substantial multiplier effect of the star scene, Michael Phelps, with 14 Olympic medals and 37 world records. The sport in the US experienced a huge boom, junior swimmers wanted to follow in his footsteps and emulate his performance. This effect had a positive influence on all those involved; youth training, scholarships and of course the level of performances in the college leagues. The college meetings draw a lot of spectators and are often shown on TV. No other country offers the ideal facilities for studying and training and this attracts top class swimmers from all over the world, which guarantees the high level of competition. For German swimmers, college sport offers the chance to move up to top level international sport.
The main swimming season is in the winter and ends in March with the National Championships. This makes it possible to compete in Europe.

Stars in the League
All the big American swimming stars came from or are still in college sport. Michael Phelps started his career in 2004 in the college team of the University of Michigan. He has been living in Baltimore since 2008.
