Field Hockey

Not only ice hockey but also women’s field hockey is very important in college sport in the USA.
Around 800 Universities support 1700 female hockey players with a total of $17.5 million. This and the top instruction, of course attracts top players from all over the world and guarantees a top level of playing ability.

Requirements for a Hockey Scholarship
To apply for a scholarship you must have played in the 1st or 2nd National League or the Regional League. We will assess each application individually, to see if you have a chance of receiving a scholarship. Fill out the free and non binding Opportunities Assessment Form and we will let you know what your chances are like.

Training
The college teams train 5 times per week for about 2 hours. The modern hockey pitches are directly on campus which proves to be time saving for students. As well as this technique training there are 2 – 4 units of weight training, coordination and fitness training. A combination of professional training and team spirit helps to improve most players’ performances. Team Spirit plays a much larger role in the USA, than it does in Germany. You eat, study and live with your team which intensifies the team spirit!

Competing
The colleges in the USA all have professional trainers and due to the fact a lot of students have full scholarships, the standard of play in the league is very high. The best teams in Division I could certainly play in the 1st National League in Germany. For German players to be part of college sport, enables them to gather international experience and develop their personalities. Many players improve their fitness to such an extent that they manage to qualify for World championships and Olympic competitions. As you can see in the video, the Americans are truly professional and always optimistic.

Timing
The best time to go to the USA on a sports scholarship is straight after you finish school. College coaches prefer to give scholarships to younger students, as it enables them to continually train and improve a player’s performance over a period of four years. It is also possible to go to the US for just one year. Due to the contact we have to a large number of college coaches we have been able to help athletes after they have completed their Bachelor to do their Master in the USA. The best timing is if you contact us about one year before you plan to start studying in the USA.  Hockey players can start studying either at the Spring Semester (January) or the Fall Semester (August).
