Who pays for the scholarship?

The scholarships are awarded directly by the university or by the coach of the University team to the athletes.

What are the requirements, to study with a sports scholarship in the U.S. or Canada?

To qualify for a scholarship you have to meet the specific regulations regarding maximum age and the number of completed semester. In Division 1, the maximum age is of 25 years. In Division 2, and the NAIA, there is no maximum age. In all leagues you must have studied a total of 8 full-time semesters. If one studies for example, 4 full-time semester (whether in Germany or the U.S.) one has a 4 further semesters available to start university. The NCAA reviews the
authorization of each athlete in the NCAA divisions. It grants a license without which the athletes may not compete in the NCAA I or II. The factors that determine whether a player gets this permission or not are his SAT results and the school grades. Also the NCAA reviews, if an athlete has “amateur status” according to their statutes. The registration fee is currently $ 75. For the initial eligibility of an athlete, the NCAA Clearing House is the final authority.

How do I get a scholarship?

It is common practice that if you get a scholarship, it is usually for four years. You can end it yourself, of course, any time.

Can I lose my scholarship?

Your scholarship cannot be lost because of poor performance or injury. The coach knows that this is part of the sport and accepts some or poor form. However, you can lose your scholarship if you cheat at a school exam, if your grade point average falls below a minimum standard (4 – on average), you are unfair in sports or if you do not obey the college rules.
